As the oldest Schlitterbahn Waterpark, the New Braunfels location has held the title of the #1 waterpark in the world for fifteen consecutive years, and boasts over 40 attraction spread over 70 acres of land. This flagship location was the first of many Schlitterbahn Waterparks to follow and set the precedence of waterpark design all over the world.
The waterpark started in 1979 with four waterslides that started from a German-style tower. The original tower was built on a hill behind next to founder Jeff Henry’s riverfront resort. Designed after the Bergfreid Guard Tower at the Solms Castle in New Braunfels, Germany, this was one of the first waterparks that supported the waterpark resort concept, and would be a model for many waterparks to come.
Schlitterbahn New Braunfels is open weekends only beginning April 27th, and opens daily May 16th-September 2nd. From September 7-22 the park is open on weekends only and then closes for the season. Ticket prices for this spectacular park are $49.99 for adults and $39.99 for seniors and children ages 3-11. - The Original Schlitterbahn
This section of the park holds the original Schlitterbahn Castle that was built in 1979. This area of the park uses spring fed water from the Comal River. Under the amazing canopy of green trees are eight different tube chutes. Also in this section of the park are seven different kid’s play areas and a wave poo.l
Dragon’s Revenge, the first uphill water coaster is in this section of the park and was voted “Best New Waterpark Ride” for three years in a row. The Kristal River is another section in Surfenburg that goes in a circle. There is also a giant kid’s area in this area called Squirt n Sliden.
This area of Schlitterbahn is home to the Master Blaster, which is the most popular ride in Schlitterbahn history. The ride starts at the top of the Blast Tower, which is six stories high along with two other rides for the thrill seeking adventurer. Surrounding the entire tower is a wave pool for the perfect endless wave.
The world’s longest tube ride is to be found in this section of Schlitterbahn New Braunfels. Many of the attractions in Tubenbach are interconnected through a river that allows tubers to stay in the water and float to different rides. Also found in this area are a multitude of no-wait attractions and beaches that give guests the opportunity to enjoy themselves without having to wait in line.
This pioneer in waterparks not only has some of the most amazing features in waterpark design but has also been a longstanding pioneer in conservation efforts. Schlitterbahn’s commitment to the environment began with the first designs of the park that were made to flow through the trees. Almost 100% of the water at Schlitterbahn is recycled and their commitment to water conservation has been duplicated across the globe.
This is especially important in New Braunfels, which is experiencing drought like conditions and receiving little rainfall. All employees are educated in the importance of water conservation and every effort is made to use as little water as necessary and still provide a place for people to experience the enjoyment a waterpark brings.
